How to play Word Deduction

Choose a round of Word Deduction and settle into its rules. Guess the five-letter answer in six attempts. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls. Make your first input carefully and watch the result. Use the example below to understand a decision.

Guess a five-letter answer from the included collection. Entries must contain five letters; accepted guesses are not checked against a complete dictionary.

A useful comparison

Compare the worked example with your own position. Use the reasoning, not an answer copied from a different board. Keep the objective visible.

Your goal

Guess the five-letter answer in six attempts. The feedback beside the game helps you follow the round. Keep the controls in easy reach.

Step by step

  1. Enter five letters.
  2. Green marks the correct position; gold marks an available copy elsewhere.
  3. Grey means no matching unused copy.
  4. Use the feedback to solve.

Controls

Type a guess and press Check guess or Enter. A careful first action helps you become familiar with the layout. Use one clear input at a time.

A useful example

With APPLE as the answer and ALLEE as the guess, the first A and final E are in the right places. The extra L and E are not both counted as present. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Look for the relevant detail.

Watch out for this

Repeated letters do not imply unlimited copies in the answer. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. Locate the buttons and input area before beginning a long round. Use the on-screen labels to avoid an accidental restart.
